If we’re talking about diving, many people might think of the sea and the Andaman Sea islands. However, it’s not just the Andaman Sea that offers beauty on the Thai coast. The Gulf of Thailand itself has diving spots that should not be missed. A must-visit landmark is Turtle Island.
Turtle Island(Koh Tao), located in the middle of the Gulf of Thailand, is approximately 110 kilometers from the coast of Surat Thani province. Its distance from the mainland is just right, allowing the natural environment to remain pristine and beautiful. This pristine environment is what attracts sea turtles to lay their eggs on this island in large numbers in the past, and it is the origin of the island’s name, Turtle Island. It has numerous beaches and bays, up to 11 bays, covering a distance of about 28.6 kilometers and featuring a long coral reef up to 8 kilometers.
Today, there are various accommodations and activities available for visitors. The overall natural environment is still minimally impacted. There are plenty of water activities to enjoy, including kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, kiteboarding, as well as both shallow and deep-sea diving with beautiful coral reefs and various marine species waiting to be discovered. If you choose the right time, you might even encounter sharks and whale sharks.
For those who aren’t into water activities, simply sitting by the beautiful beach and enjoying the comfortable breeze is worth the visit. Or if you’re up for a little hike to the viewpoint, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views that are truly worth the journey. Additionally, you can make your trip even more special by visiting the crystal-clear sea of Nangyuan Island, known for its stunning views and the unique sandbar connecting the islands.
